The Wandering Earth
2021, 464 pages
From New York Times bestselling author Cixin Liu, The Wandering Earth is a science fiction short story collection featuring the title tale--the basis for the blockbuster international film, now streaming on Netflix. These ten stories, including five Chinese Galaxy Award-winners, are a blazingly original ode to planet Earth, its pasts, and its futures. Liu's fiction takes the reader to the edge of the universe and the end of time, to meet stranger fates than we could have ever imagined. With a melancholic and keen understanding of human nature, Liu's stories show humanity's attempts to reason, navigate, and above all, survive in a desolate cosmos. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.}
My Notes
Overview
A series of science fiction stories that will truly bend and expand your mind. It's astonishing what kind of ride Cixin Liu can take you on in a span of 60 or so pages.
Key Takeaways
Thinking differently about the origins or interpretations of our reality. This is the fiction book I recommend to everyone. I hadn't had my mind stimulated like this in many years. Most of all, though, if there's a takeaway, it's to be grateful for the Earth we have. The title story, The Wandering Earth, makes this point powerfully. When I finished reading it, I felt an appreciation for the life we lead on our planet like never before, what a miracle it is that we are alive in a relative paradise of a place and period.
Relevance
Anyone who wants to bend their perspective and see the world anew. Has become the book I recommend the most to anyone wanting to have their worldview bent by SF in a compact package.
